A high school jock makes a bet that he can turn an unattractive girl into the school's prom queen, through the process of this he gradually falls in love with her. It was directed by Robert Iscove and written by R. Lee Fleming Jr. Like most teen movies at has the typical characters, locations and story line that make it an all round teen movie.
She's All That was filmed in 1999 with all the cliches a teen movie can offer. This movie has strong elements of romance between Zack Siler, the jock and Laney Briggs, the unpopular girl. It also has rivalry and drama between Laney Briggs and Taylor Vaughan, the popular girl. Throughout the movie there is continuous comedy, therefore making this film a cliche teen movie.

This movies featured actors such as Freddie Prinze Jr, known for his smaller rolls and for being in I know what you did last summer. Also features Paul Walker which would encourage younger fans to watch the movie after the success of the Fast and Furious fame. In addition, this film featured people from the music industry such as Lil Kim and Usher who were at the peak of their fame in the 90's. This would've boosted the audience which means it boosted the ratings.
This movie was set in a high school, therefore I found it lacked originality. However, it did include other locations that are not usually seen in a teen movie such as the theatre. Other locations it featured throughout the film were parties, the beach, the home, fast food restaurant and many more.
This movie is versatile in the sense that many different audiences can watch it. Older generations may watch the film to reminisce whereas younger generations many watch the film in slight belief that their teen life is the same or to look at what it could be. Those considered socially awkward are more likely to watch it and relate to Laney Briggs. Girls tend to watch films like this hoping for a romantic fairy tale like Laney and Zack.
The only problem I truly had with this film was the lack of originality. I knew what was gonna happen and when it was gonna happen. Also, Rachel Lee Cook who played Laney Briggs was a child model, her costume was only a pair of dungarees covered in paint and a pair glasses therefore making it clear to the audience that their would be some form of a transformation.
This is not based on the everyday lives of teen therefore the director was more free to exaggerate and exploit the characters, otherwise the film would've been quite boring.
